Composition Assignment

This picture of 2 trees at Hilda Ave Park is taken with patterns kept in mind. The silhouette of the 2 bare trees against the morning sky creates a visually pleasing effect. Had the trees not lost their leaves yet, the photo would not have the same aesthetics to it. I further enhanced the picture by increasing sharpness, adjusting the curvature of the Blue and RGB lines, and increasing saturation. The result is a much more vibrant photo. I also cropped the photo to get ride of some unnecessary colour. The picture is well balanced as there are 2 similar trees in the frame side by side.
This is a picture of my bird, Rio. I used the railings of my stairs as a natural frame, and thankfully Rio was cooperating at the time! I did not like this picture at first, but I adjusted a couple things on photoshop which made it a much better picture. For example, I decreased the brightness which gives a 'mysterious' element to the picture, and I also blurred out Rio's disco ball in the background. I wanted Rio to be the main focus of the photo instead of his disco ball.

The photo I took of the dandelion is an example of depth of field photography. I used aperture priority mode on my camera to create a shallow depth of field, and I enhanced it even more by blurring the background on photoshop. The dandelion is in the foreground, and there is a playground and a white van in the background which gives a sense to how big the dandelion is. Personally, this is my favorite style of photography as I love the effect of a blurred background!

This is a portrait of my sister. I believe that there is adequate headroom, as the top of her head isn't too low or too high in the frame. There was not much to do on photoshop as the elements in the photo are fairly simple, however, I did increase the sharpness and increased saturation a little bit which increased the overall quality of the picture and its colors.

My final picture is taken using the rule of thirds. I first shot the plant head on, but I found the picture to lack excitement. By changing the frame so that the plant would be off center, it suddenly added an extra element to the picture. On photoshop, I took a long time to make sure that everything would be greyed out except the actual plant which I found to look very attractive. The wall is actually beige, and the dirt is brown with some orange in it. By taking those colors out, I was able to make the plant the focus of the photo.

  1. Hi Avinav,

I think all of your Photoshop edits were done quite efficiently. Though there were some minor grammatical errors, you display an eloquent form of writing that helped aid your fairly strong assignment.

Though this assignment is strong for our first major assignment of the year, there were a couple of small issues I noticed. Firstly, I am not quite sure your first image constitutes as "Patterns." It looks as if you are taking that image from a lowered angle which may be Viewpoint. Your image involving headroom was the correct assessment, but I think there may be a bit too much for the purpose of the image.

Below is a grade breakdown of your assignment:

    Photos: 12/15
    Descriptions 13/15
    Photoshop Edits: 10/10
    Overall: 35/40
